Your bust line is tiny and you’re sick of not having any curves. You’ve decided that breast implants can give you those womanly curves and cleavage that you desire. But, before you get your heart set on expanding your bust line, you need to find out if you are a good candidate.

Unfortunately, not everyone can accommodate the insertion of breast implants. Here’s how you can tell if you are a good candidate:

1. Consultation. During your consultation for breast implants, your surgeon will evaluate your body. He will check your bone structure and the amount of tissue and skin you have available in the chest area. See, he is going to need the skin to stretch to accommodate the breast implants and if there isn’t enough skin or enough elasticity, it can damage the skin and also affect the look of the placement.

2. Medical Conditions. It is very important to let your surgeon know if you have any pre-existing medical conditions, especially cardiovascular problems or blood disorders. Include in this any medications you are taking to control your symptoms. Having a pre-existing condition doesn’t necessarily rule out breast implants for you, but the surgeon may need to take special precautions to reduce any risk to you during the surgery.

3. Habits. If you smoke, you must quit a few months before the procedure and it is best if you kick the habit all together. Smoking clogs the arteries and thins the blood vessels which can cause complications during surgery.

4. Motivation. The only good motivation for getting breast implants is because you want them. If you are getting them for any other reason, like someone is pressuring you to do it or because you are depressed and think it will make you feel better, reconsider the procedure. You may need to deal with other issues first before making such a drastic change to your body.

5. Doubts. If you have any doubts whatsoever, delay the procedure until you have had more time to think about it. There’s no rush and this is a major decision that shouldn’t be made on the spur of the moment. There are risks involved as there is with any surgery. But, it is also a life altering procedure. Are you ready for the changes it will bring about? It is much easier to change your mind before the surgery than it is afterwards. You don’t want to regret this decision.

Your surgeon will be able to determine if you are a good candidate for breast implants. To make sure you get the best advice, you must choose the right surgeon. Make sure he is a board certified plastic surgeon and, if you are concerned at all, choose someone who specializes in augmentation procedures.

Once you and your surgeon have decided whether you are a good candidate or not, you should be satisfied with the outcome. If he doesn’t think you should do it, listen to his reasons. If he says you are good to go, then you are ready to embark on a new chapter in your life with a curvier body.
