Breast augmentation doesn’t have to be expensive. Breast implants usually cost anywhere from $2,000 to $10,000, depending on a number of factors. The average cost is about $4,000. You can expect to pay more for implants in major metropolitan areas, especially New York and Los Angeles.

The least expensive place to get your surgery is in the southern states. When you’re asking about the price, be sure to ask if it includes one implant or both. This might seem obvious, but this simple mistake could mean seeing the cost double when you get your bill! It’s important to make sure you’ve got all the details covered.

Some Things That Affect Price

$2-10,000 is a big range. So, what factors affect the price?

First off, the type of implant makes a difference. Silicone implants cost more than saline. You can expect to pay about $1,000 more per implant, although this varies quite a bit depending on location. Another major factor is what the price covers. Implants themselves usually cost around $1,000 a piece.

Anesthesia is usually $500 to $800, and hospital fees usually run about $1,000. Medications to help you in your recovery will also add to the cost. Make sure your quote covers everything, so there won’t be any surprises. A reputable clinic will give you all the detailed information you need up front.

A few years after you get your implants, you’ll want to have a follow-up. This will include an MRI, which usually costs somewhere around $2,000. Don’t think of this as an optional cost! The purpose of the follow-up visit is to make sure the implants are not ruptured. This is an important safety measure, so don’t try to cut costs by not doing it!

Breast Implants and Insurance

Many folks find it hard to get funding for their implants. Health insurance almost never pays for breast augmentation. In cases where the operation is for breast reconstruction following a mastectomy, coverage is sometimes available.

Even when there is coverage for breast augmentation, it usually doesn’t cover health problems that might occur as a result of the surgery, follow-up appointments or MRI’s. Be sure you know exactly what is and isn’t covered in your health plan.

In face, some health plans will raise your premiums if you have had breast work done. They view it as a risk, even though breast implants are safer than ever these days. Your health company may be one of these, so be sure you read the fine print and know where they stand.

How Much Should You Pay?

You can’t really put a price on quality breast augmentation work. If a doctor says they will do the job at a ridiculously low price, it might be a good idea to look elsewhere. It’s not worth the risk going with a clinic that may not be safe or trustworthy in order to save money.

A breast job done badly will end up costing you more because you’ll have to have corrective surgery, or have the bad implants removed. When shopping for a clinic, don’t worry as much about the cost as about the quality they offer.

Breast augmentation has become the most popular cosmetic surgery procedure in the United States. Over 350,000 women opted for the surgery last year alone. Many more are curious about the possibility or are considering it in the near future.

One of the top mistakes women make in breast augmentation is choosing the wrong breast implant size. A recent study shows that over one-third of all breast augmentation revision surgeries was simply to change the breast implant size. A revision surgery to change implant size contains all the same health risks and all the same costs as the first surgery.

An important question to ask yourself is how can you avoid this mistake happening to you if you are considering breast augmentation? If this common problem is continuing to occur this means that women are not spending enough time or attention to this critical decision.

There are several methods women have used over the years to choose their breast implant size:

Viewing before and after photos on the internet

Trying on implant sizers at the doctors office

Discussion with family and friends

Consultations with their plastic surgeon

Wear a breast implant sizing system

The consultation with your plastic surgeon is the most important of these methods because they are able to compare your desires with what may be possible in breast augmentation. It is important that you communicate to your doctor not only what you want to look like, but how you want to feel about your new appearance as well.

When you meet with your plastic surgeon it is helpful to bring along breast augmentation before and after photos from the internet of what you want to look like. The photos can help you communicate approximately what you want to look like.

Breast implant sizing systems are available to help you see what your bust line will look like prior to making your final decision. Using such a system can help you determine how breast implants will look like on your own body versus photos of other bodies. Avoid the common and costly mistake of choosing the wrong breast implant size by trying all of these methods. Take your time in making the decision, test-drive your new breast implant size and get feedback with your family, friends, and most importantly, your plastic surgeon.

Many women want to go ahead with breast augmentation cosmetic surgery, but they are not well aware of much information about this plastic surgery. Researches have shown that many women know only about the two types of implants for their breast but are unaware about the risk, complications and other important features of it. Here, we shall discuss its vital aspects in detail.

Many women desire to increase their breast size but are afraid of undergoing breast implant surgery, as it created controversy few years ago. Hence, it is recommended to consider few points and discuss them with your surgeon before you actually go for the operation. Some of these points are:

You might not get the accurate result

There might be the case of re operation

Never entertain breast augmentation, if there is any case of breast cancer in your family.

While consulting a surgeon, you should find solution to every of your question. Talk to your surgeon in detail and gather as much information as you can, so that you have not to face any problem in coming days. Inquire about the post-risk associated with the surgery. Let your initial consultation cover discussion of all related issues.

Some common question to be asked

Let your consultant answer every of your question in detail, so that you can learn more about the entire surgery. Here are some of the questions, you should put before him, before actually undergoing the surgery.

What are different types of breast implants?

In how many different sizes are these implants available?

What does breast implant profile and projection means?

What is the right size and type of implant for my body?

How much does it cost?

What is best breast incision area to use implants?

What are the various best implant recovery garments required?

Will there be any need of any additional surgery?

How long does a breast implant last?

What are signs and possibilities of implant leakage?

Risk associated with the surgery

Breast augmentation has some risk associated with it. In some cases, patients feel mild nausea; while some other develops flu-like symptoms. There are some that recover too early, but at the same time there are some that takes too long to recover. Hence, it can be said that it depends from body to body.

Some cases of breast pain, calcium deposits, chest wall deformity, scarring, lumps or inflammation have also been noticed, but they are either because of lack of information among patients or due to some carelessness. Hence, it is always advisable to collect as much information as possible.

Beside the above mentioned information, you can research online for several website, manufacturing breast implants. Silicone breast implants have the added advantage of being too soft to touch. It gives natural appearance t your breast. But, they are bit more expensive.

If you have researched enough, you know it by now. The average cost of breast implants, if you want to get your boobs filled with jelly, is around $5000.

However, what they forget to tell you… or what you forget to listen to, is that this is only a one time fee. If you are lucky, that $5000 is the total cost for the implants, the anesthesiologist, the hospital stay and your surgeon’s fee.

Unfortunately once you start to mess around with what mother nature gave you, you must be prepared to pay a LOT more than the onetime fee.

Yes. Women end up being not happy with their implants. Sometimes ruptures can happen or other health issues arise and you will need some type of correction again. Very few women are lucky enough to have their original implants for 10+ years without any problems.

Even if you are lucky and your implants last for 10 years, you need to be ready because you will need another surgery after those years. Not to mention that you might have children and after nursing them, your breasts will sag. A lift and new implants will cost you a lot more than the average $5000.

If 10 years seems far away, so be it. But if you borrowed money for the first time and we are looking at the current economy now, you can get into real financial trouble if problems arise. And you will not be able to postpone the surgery because your health will depend on it.

The number one complaint after surgery is that patients regret that they didn’t have larger implants. This arises from the fact that when trying on implants before surgery, women are either shy or have not gotten used to having larger breasts. To avoid this, I recommend that you choose the largest implant size that you can feel comfortable with.

The second most common reason for dissatisfaction is that women feel that once they get breast implants they should instantaneously be ready for the swim suit, with the “Perfect New Breasts”! Obviously, it takes weeks to months for implants to settle, swelling to subside, and breast tissue to accommodate the new implant. Therefore, be patient.

A third very common reason for dissatisfaction is having unreasonable expectations. Most women quickly forget the shape of the breasts that they had before their augmentation, just several weeks ago. The aesthetic outcome of Breast Augmentation greatly depends on what your breasts looked like before surgery. For example, if you had significant breast asymmetry, tubular breasts, or extensive sagging beforehand, surgery would not be able to give you “perfect breasts”, but only breasts that are better looking than where you started.

To avoid being dissatisfied with your breast augmentation surgery, do your homework and communicate with your plastic surgeon before your surgery. You need to have all your questions answered to your satisfaction and also make sure that you get a feel that your surgeon really understands what you need and you understand what your surgeon is telling you about potential outcomes and the limitations of your surgery.

Breast Lifts

Mastopexy is the surgical term for a breast lift, a cosmetic procedure involving the removal of extra skin and the tightening of localized tissue, to raise the breasts into a normal position. This results in a more attractive breast.

The breast lift is best for women not satisfied with the shape of their breasts, with nipples which have dropped under the fold of the breast, whose breasts are not aligned, whose areolas and nipples point downward, with engorged areolas or with extended skin.

A breast implant is not used in this operation; the plastic surgeons merely use the natural breast areas.

Why Breasts Sag

Many factors are responsible for the sagging of breasts. A genetic predisposition, gravity, natural aging, drastic weight loss or gain, loss of the skin’s natural elasticity, pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Mastopexy offers the least risks to women with a healthy lifestyle – do not smoke, generally with good health, normal weight – and have realistic expectations of the procedure.

Breast Augmentation

Breast Augmentation, or breast enlargement plastic surgery, is the best alternative for women who wish to acquire a bigger breast size. This cosmetic operation is ideal for women who feel that a bigger breast size would give them more satisfaction or self-confidence, women whose breasts have sagged due to age, abrupt weight loss or childbirth, or those who consider their breasts to look asymmetrical.

Types of Plastic Surgery Breast Implants

Women who opt for a breast lift procedure instead of an increase in breast size, breast implants can make their breasts look fuller. Silicone and saline implants differ only in the solution filling the bags.

Most breast implants are composed of a silicone elastomer shell. Saline implants are filled with a saline solution while silicone gel fills silicone breast implants.

Breast Reduction

Those who wish contrary to a breast lift or breast implants could avail of a breast reduction plastic surgery. This is a procedure which results in the opposite of a breast lift or breast implant; it decreases the breast size.

This type of surgery is also used to make the areola around the nipple smaller. Breast reduction is an ideal choice of procedure for women with back and neck problems brought about by their large breast size; have poor posture; have scars or shoulder impressions from bra straps; or have difficulty breathing and developed rashes under the breast.

This operation is not advisable for women under eighteen years and breastfeeding mothers. A breast lift would serve them better.

When women are making the decision whether or not to go through with breast augmentation surgery, they are faced with several decisions that will affect the way the implants look and feel. Not only that, but the method of implantation can even effect the accuracy of mammograms, likelihood of implant rupture, breakage and hardening, and the ability to breastfeed.

These are some very serious considerations for a woman who is thinking about having this cosmetic procedure, and should be discussed thoroughly with the plastic surgeon prior to any decisions being made.

There are several methods of breast implantation available to women today, and I’m sure even as we speak there are more being tested! First, we’ll talk about the method of entry for the implant device. When this surgery first became popular, the method of choice was an incision in the “breast fold” between the rib cage and where the breast tissue rests. After that, the underarm incision method became popular, since the incision could be made to be less noticeable in this area.

Nowadays, many women are opting for navel, or belly button incisions (trans-umbilical implants), as well as entry through the areola (the darker skin surrounding the nipple). The belly button method seems to be gaining popularity, and the areola is a close second. The obvious drawback for the underarm implant entry is the visibility of the scar. It has also been argued that insertion of the implant through the belly button may make “implant migration” occur more easily, but that is debatable. Some women who have had areolar implant incisions complain they have lost sensitivity in the nipple area, or have a constant numbness or tingling sensation.

Another important decision has to do with the placement of the implant in the women’s breast. The two choices here are behind the muscle and over the muscle, the “muscle” being that of the pectoralis in the chest cavity.

Over the muscle implant operations tend to cost less as they are somewhat less invasive and take less operating time, but this method tends to result in more cases of ruptured implants, since the implant is less protected without the muscle’s protective encasement. The other drawbacks to over the muscle implants are the possibility for difficulty in breast feeding, and mammograms that are tougher to decipher since the necessary tissue for analysis is obscured by the implant. Also, over the muscle implants tend to look much more artificial than the other, which is a big reason most women do not choose this method of breast augmentation.

Regardless of the methods you choose for the operation, you must be aware that there are several risks involved that may not even be immediately apparent, but can appear over the next several years after you have the surgery. These include capsular contracture (shrinking of the scar tissue surrounding the implants resulting in painful hardening of the implant), implant rupture, implant migration, hardening of the implant, the “ripple” effect, and more less-known complications that are not as common.

As long as you pick an excellent, board certified, and very reputable surgeon, you can at least know that you are in the most capable hands. You should also know that there are some great natural methods to breast augmentation that are totally effective, and safe. Do your homework, and really consider how you want to look and feel before you make any decisions. After all, breast augmentation surgery is a very serious decision!

The number of women in the United States who have breast implants is unknown, but current estimates derived from national surveys of up to 4 million +. This is more than 3% of the adult female population. It is estimated that 70-80% of breast implant procedures were performed for cosmetic and 20-30% for the reconstruction of congenital anomalies or defects post mastectomy. Following the adverse publicity in the early 1990, interest in the procedure was reduced by almost 50%, but seems to have recovered gradually. In 1998, approximately 350000 pairs were sold in the United States for the increase.

Before 1963, various plastic foam materials were used, however, it became apparent that the air would collapse and cells, combined with tissue in growth, reduce and tighten the device. These materials were wrapped in plastic to minimize this effect was in vain. Surprisingly, some of these implants were well tolerated who have remained in place until today.

The modern silicone breast implants has been available since 1963 and has gone through an evolution of change and improvement. Several types of devices, with many variations and styles within each class have been created. Basic for all silicone implants is a rubber (rubber) shell, which may be single or double, smooth or textured, coated barrier, or covered with polyurethane foam.

The contents are either factory filled with silicone gel of different consistencies or inflated to surgery with normal saline. A brand manufactured abroad was briefly marketed in the United States and was pre saline in the factory. This device was withdrawn later when the FDA denied approval.

The dual lumen devices consist of concentric balloons containing silicone in one house and saline in the other. The only one still in use is Becker, who has an outer layer of gel inside and a ball valve that is to allow inflation postoperative gradually with saline solution. This is called a “permanent tissue expander”, as it allows gradual and temporary over inflation to create the pocket, then you can leave a permanent implants after the size fits properly.

The gel implants

Three generations of basic design of this device have been created, with many variations within each type.

First generation

The first models that are marketed have thick envelopes, smooth wall silicone elastomer made in 2 sections, filled with silicone gel viscous material, and stick together. In the early years, researchers believed that the device requires adherence to the tissues to prevent migration. Scar in growth for fixing was conducted by patches of material, such as Dacron mesh or perforated silicone, which is attached to the back of the device or by an outer covering of polyurethane foam. The Dacron patches and silicone were subsequently found to be unnecessary and, indeed, remained in the quality of the result. Some patches or tabs created a point of tension that led to tears of the envelope. Fixing patches have been eliminated in the early 1970’s.

Second generation

Evolution brought changes in the gel consistency and thickness shell in an attempt to improve performance. Since the mid-1970, the shells were thinner and less viscous gel (ie more “sensitive”), especially in an ill-conceived attempt to control capsular contracture. This trend was reversed in the early 1980’s to realize that it is not effective in reducing the contracture and resulted in a more fragile. Most were broken 10 years later.

Third generation

New formulations of the shell before it was to be strong and significantly lower “bleed” or dissemination is usually small amounts of silicone oil fraction of the gel content. The gel content also became more viscous and cohesive.

In 1989, with the surface texture of envelopes that many surgeons are expected to minimize the incidence of unwanted firmness of capsular contracture were available. Recent studies are somewhat confused about whether this is effective. They are also available with removable devices subcutaneous fill ports, which allow the adjustment of postsurgical size. The texture devices seem to have a higher rupture rate than those with good shells.

Polyurethane-covered implants

In the late 1960’s, a variation of the device has been developed that contains a coating of polyurethane through an otherwise standard gel-filled implant. Despite the fact that the coating was originally planned as a layer of fixing, more surgeons came to believe that the foam pad resulted in a decreased incidence (or at least delay the onset) of capsular contracture. These implants also evolved in shape and design, which culminated in the 1980’s with the Meme Optimam and styles. In April 1991, the manufacturer withdrew voluntarily covered foam implants market.

A style, MemeME had a unique construction. There was a shell but a type of skin was formed in situ by spraying the surface with silicone that contain extra catalyst before cure. This increase in cross linking the area to create a shell-like membrane. Without the filling of silica, this membrane is not as strong as a shell. The polyurethane foam is formed and stamped by the surface. Implants of this type are known to occasionally stretched some of its content through gel foam when squeezed. This is one possible explanation for reports of blood that are at the bottom of the gel implants apparently intact. The MemeME model was marketed from 1983-1988.

Although silicone remained the only material available shell, the new filler substances were in use in Europe and South America, while under development or in pilot testing in the United States. Several hydrogels and a pure form of triglycerides are the main 2 formulations. The main advantage of the formulation of triglycerides (Trilucent) was that he had a number Z (far radiolucency) similar to that of fat, so that little or no commitment to mammography. Another filling substance, policloruro of pyrrolidone in saline, was briefly available in the United States under the trade name Misty Gold. None of these products are currently available in the United States. All currently considered fill substances are designed to be absorbed and excreted aggressive if the shell cracks or leaks. Apart from time-honoured silicone gel-filled nonabsorbable is currently unavailable in this country.

Documents submitted in clinical trials is a new formulation of gel padding that is thicker and more coherent in order to minimize the spread gel in the case of rupture.

As evidenced by the sales figures before the moratorium, approximately 80-85% of surgeons and patients prefer the quality of the results obtained by gel implants. Gel devices appear to be the choice of implants for use post mastectomy. In 1997, sales figures for Europe, where use is free, show an allocation of 70% gel, 15% saline, and 15% of alternate fills as triglycerides (then still available) and hydrogels for cosmetic use.

As of this writing, owing to restrictions imposed on the sale of the gel device from the FDA, these implants are only available for the rebuilding or replacement under a strict protocol. The FDA recently concluded hearings in which the latest safety data on the gel implants were submitted by both manufacturers. The panel approved the corporation Mentor devices for cosmetic purposes under strict regulation and monitoring of needs but denied approval for the product Inamed. The panel recommendations are only advisory, and it remains to be seen whether the FDA accepts his advice or, as they have done before, continue to ban the cosmetic use.

Breast enhancement surgery has become one of the most popular cosmetic procedures in the United States, Canada, and Europe. Thousands of women, dreaming of having perfect breasts spend thousands of dollars to have their breasts enlarged by inserting artificial breast implants into their bust.

The problem is that as this surgery becomes more common, so do the risks and possible complications of breast implants are downplayed. And that is a mistake, because as there are many women who are thrilled with the results they got after surgery, so do many women wake up wishing they had never chose to go through this procedure.

Here are some of the possible risks of breast implants gone wrong:

1. Breast implants, especially Silicone implants, may interfere with mammography screenings. That places women who have them at a higher risks of failing to detect breast cancer, a fact which may have life threatening consequences.

2. They may rupture, releasing Silicone or Saline into the body. While Saline implants deflate as soon as they rupture, so that the woman is instantly aware that something may be going wrong, Silicone implants may leak slowly. The ruptrues are believed to increase the chance of developing breast cancer.

3. One of the possible risks of them gone bad, especially Saline breast implants, is Rippling. This may cause a visible and unattractive “wave” along the side of the breast. Correction of this problem may require an additional surgery with all the risks involved.

4. A unique complication is known as the Double Bubble. In this case, the breast tissue surrounding the implant sags beneath it until it seems as if there are two globes on each side of the chest. The only way to correct this condition is through surgery.

5. Capsual Contracture – this is a condition in which the tissue surrounding the implant shrinks around it, squeezing it. This is an extremely painful condition and may also lead to ruptures and implant leakage. It may also harden the breasts and cause them to appear distorted.

Make sure to ask your doctor about the risks and complication of the breast implants which will be inserted into your body. Don’t go through surgery without knowing all the facts.

A new surgical technology could make breast augmentation much easier, less painful, and more natural, according to a recent press release. One experienced surgeon has already patented and is in the process of developing a special form of “micro” breast implants.

With this technique, hundreds of pea-sized implants are inserted into the chest, rather than one large one. These tiny implants are composed of a silicone material that is similar to that found in conventional materials, but the micro implants stick together and stay put in the normal region of fatty breast tissues.

The traditional enlargement procedure includes making large incisions underneath the breast, around the nipple or through the armpit. Depending on the type and size of prosthesis, these incision lines can be two inches or longer in length.

Silicone implants are placed inside with all the fluid already inside, but salines are inserted in a deflated state and the saline is pumped in until the size is right. The placement of the implants can be over or under the pectoral muscles depending on preferences and the body type of the patient. The recovery process can take several weeks, including some minor or considerable discomfort, swelling, and bruising.

With the new proposed micro breast augmentation technique, the incision lines could be as small as 5 mm long, making them virtually invisible if they are made in the natural crease under the breast. The tiny materials could be inserted through the micro hole, until the desired size is achieved. The smaller scar and more gradual increase of the tissue could make the recovery process less painful and quicker.

One of the main advertised benefits of micro implants is a more natural-looking chest. Some saline or silicone prostheses can look very ball-like in certain cases, but many tiny ones would be able to move and shift along with the normal movements of the body, allowing them to be shaped into the natural form of the breasts.

The press release said that a research study performed about the possible implication of the new technology found that it would be very popular with women without adding any more to the operation’s price tag. An added benefit would be that repeat enlargement sessions would be easier.

These types of surgeries are very common today as women want a bigger size after the healing process is complete and the prosthesis settles into position. With the micro implants, the same tiny incision could easily be opened and more could just be injected to fill out the breast shape.

Still, conventional saline and silicone implants are the only Food and Drug Administration-approved breast augmentation options today and they remain safe and effective as a whole for women desiring a fuller bosom.

Patients achieve greatest satisfaction with the results of their surgery when they closely collaborate with their surgeons, confiding all their concerns and expectations. An experienced and qualified plastic surgeon will be able to inform the patient of the best available techniques as well as the limits and risks.
