Nearly 20 years ago, Susan had breast implants after a doctor recommended to reduce their cystic fibrosis. Their insurance paid for it, and few hazards were recognized. The breaking of the original saline implants after several years, and your doctor recommended its replacement by silicone implants, known for its durability. He got the implants and continued with his life.

About four years ago, began to get sick. It was sudden and remarkable: he became easily fatigued, and his lungs began to hurt. She began taking mega-doses of supplements to boost your immune system and recover for brief periods, but ultimately, the symptoms worsened.

After a year and a half of physical and emotional roller coaster, began making the connection between the pain of lung and breast implants. But getting silicone implants removed proved to be a more difficult proposition than I had imagined: surgeon after surgeon warned him that her breasts were deformed less than silicone implants replaced with saline implants.

The next six months were marked by equal measures of the inquiry and blind faith. Immediately after surgery, she began to put endless castor oil packs on her chest and back to remove the remaining toxins. She listened to meditation tapes in the bathtub and is expected to toxins such as black bodies floating outside his body. Essential oils were used to restore your energy levels. Your diet changes, as she began eating fish and meat, and eggs and earth to strengthen your body.

His recovery was quick – other women had told him that took over two years to return to normal, but Susan was seeing a substantial improvement after just a few months. We are confident that she was over the worst of all, moved and jumped to life again with both feet, taking in many great projects at once. He pushed too hard, and she began to get sick again – a painful experience that taught him a valuable lesson in the real cure.

After several months of increases, followed by the terrible accident, she received the message: if not stopped, you will die. “This is what I’ve learned: if you think that supplements are going to take the place of calm and sweetness, is wrong,” she says.

It is difficult to know what a woman facing breast enhancement surgery is thinking when she finally makes the decision to go forward with breast implants, but to know what her male partner thinks is even more challenging.

Do the men salivate at the thought of perkier breasts that are firm and perfect looking? Or do they object to a woman changing their body with surgery, preferring instead to have an all-natural woman?

The decision to have a breast enhancement surgery, while ultimately lying with the woman having the surgery, often involves heavy consultation with the man in their life.

The man’s involvement will certainly vary, but particularly post-surgery, the man needs to be willing to understand and accept the role they must play in care-giving.

The first few days following a breast enhancement surgery can be filled with pain, discomfort, and bruising, and great care must be given in administering assistance to the patient. The advice for many men is that they take off work at least the first day after surgery to assist the woman.

There are men whose wives or significant others decide to have breast implants for any number of reasons, but the overwhelming feedback received concerns how the woman reacts after surgery.

One man reported that his wife had had several biopsies on one breast, and the result was a B cup on one side and a C cup on the other, making the woman self-conscious.

After deciding to go through with the surgery, the man reported that he had never seen his wife’s face light up the way that it did, and that in twenty-one years of marriage, he had never seen her voluntarily shop for a tank top or bathing suit.

He did reinforce that the post-operative care was considerable, and advises making sure there are plenty of pillows available, water, juices of varying flavors, and that there should be the understanding that neither person would be getting sleep in the first few days.

Another man stated that when it comes to the choice of having implants or not, he had no strong opinions either way for his wife. He stated that when he is intimate with his wife, he isn’t thinking about whether she has silicone or saline, but he is thinking about her as a whole person, not as those two parts of her body.

Ultimately, his wife decided to have a breast enhancement, and he says that every time he touches one of them, he doesn’t think about what is inside at all.

There are also men who are more concerned with their partner’s health than with the aesthetic outcome. After all, it is not a simple surgery procedure, and waiting in the hospital for your loved one to come out of surgery is also difficult. Not to mention, you then have to be the primary caregiver for several days.

The bottom line, however, is that for a majority of men, it matters more that their spouse is having breast implants for their self-image, to make themselves feel better, and not for any other reason.

Saline-filled breast implants typically have some amount of rippling or wrinkling which is not usually seen with silicone gel breast implants. (although it can still occur) This is particularly evident in women with thin skin and very little breast tissue. Implant wrinkling is felt on the bottom and sides of the breasts and can be seen as patterned set of lines visible through the breast skin. Breast implant wrinkling is usually most visible in certain positions, particularly when one is leaning forward or lying on your back. Wrinkles on a saline breast implant may be only a minor cosmetic issue (if you were informed before surgery) or might be a source of major unhappiness and be the reason to undergo revision surgery.

Rippling occurs as a result of the physical interface between the saline and the elastic silicone polymer shell. The exact reason wrinkling of the breast implant occurs has to do with how well the filler material coats the inside of the implant and bonds to it as well as its own viscosity. Water (or saltwater) flows easily and does not ’stick’ well to the inside wall of the breast implant shell, resulting in implant buckling and folding. This is a normal finding with saline breast implants and its presence is not abnormal or the plastic surgeon’s fault. Placement of saline breast implants above the muscle is also much more likely to lead to visible implant wrinkling in thin individuals as there is little breast tissue to cover the visible ripples and there is no pressure on the implant from the overlying muscle. Textured saline implants are particularly prone to rippling due to their thicker shell (harder for the water to push it out) and due to traction from the implant grabbing the thicker non-stretchable surrounding scar that it creates. The combination of textured saline breast implants above the muscle has the highest incidence of significant wrinkling issues.

Established ways to diminish the amount of wrinkling which can occur are to overfill the breast implant with more saline than the implant base size (increase the internal fluid pressure) and to place the saline breast implants under the muscle. (which puts more pressure on the outside of the implant). Both of these methods do lead to less wrinkling, but neither can completely prevent it. Overfilling a breast implant with too much saline will make it feel more firm than normal breast tissue, although this is generally well accepted by most patients. The best approach for prevention is to use non-textured (smooth) saline implants placed under the muscle which are then filled 25 to 50cc more than its base size. While all implant wrinkling can not be prevented with saline fills, a significant reduction can be seen in most patients with this approach.
